Châtel's Our Favourite Ski Resort This Season

Friday, 07, September, 2012

You'll find Châtel nestled between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc, on a south-facing slope in the picturesque Abondance valley. Châtel is actually traditionally a farming village and still has 38 working farms. We love visiting this authentic French mountain village because of its exceptional setting, perfect for skiing the major Portes du Soleil ski area! Châtel has a microclimate with optimal snowfall and excellent ski conditions due to its position in the most northern part of the French Alps combined with the effects of Lake Geneva.

With a Châtel ski pass, you have access to 130km of pistes and over 50 ski lifts. From Châtel you can ski by direct link into the ski resort of Avoriaz, as well as several Swiss resorts, and the huge Portes du Soleil area - there's no need to stick to the same pistes on this trip! They are both open with wooded slopes in this area and some of the best runs for intermediates.

Châtel boasts a great selection of traditional French restaurants, as well as a range of bars with live music nights and a buzzing après-ski atmosphere. Head to the late night bowling alley, ice rink, cinema, shops, or the speciality food shops which sell French sausages and cheeses!

The residences have been designed to blend in with the mountain style, and complement the village ambience. We recommend 4* Luxury Les Chalets d’Angele for its fabulous facilities - plus its just a four minute skibus ride from the Super Châtel gondola!
