What's New In The French Alps This Winter?

The French Alps are as popular as ever. Skiers flock from far and wide to ski some of the best-connected ski areas in the world.

Each year resorts focus on providing the best experience for their holidaymakers, sometimes this includes developing areas of the resort such as new slopes, replacing chairlifts, building new areas for children or even adding new experiences.

Here are the latest ski resort developments happening across the French Alps, ready for the winter 2018/19 ski season! 

New in St Martin de Belleville for 2018/19

St Martin de Belleville is opening a new skating rink with special equipment for children to try out ice hockey, along with ice curling for families.

New in Tignes Val d'Isere for winter 2018/19


In 2018, the Sache cable car and the Brévières chairlift will be replaced by a new 8 person cable car in order to connect Brévières with Tignes 1800. Also, the capacity of the Boisses gondola will continue to be improved to 3,000 passengers per hour with 47 cabins.

New in Les Gets for winter 2018/19

A new blue ski run is planned for 2018/19. It is to be located in a popular part of the ski area and will be served by the Perrières Express chairlift, providing quick and easy access to the entire ski area from the car park at the entrance to the village.

New in Val Thorens (Orelle) for 2018/19

There's a new double 1600m zip-line being built offering a stunning way to arrive at the heart of the resort in Place Caron. Two new runs are being are also being added. One is a 3.2km run running from La Cime Caron described as suitable for all. The second is a black in the Boismint sector. Finally, four new ski touring itineraries are being added. They vary in length from 2- 6km.

New in Val Cenis for 2018/19

Replacement of the Vieux Moulin gondola in Val Cenis with a quicker gondola that will take 2200 people an hour. There are 55 x 10 people cabins with heated seats. At the top of the gondola, there's a panoramic platform and picnic area. Plus one new drag lift creating a new beginners area and quicker access to the gondola.

New in Serre Chevalier for winter 2018/19

Serre Chevalier will be replacing the Cote Chevalier lift in the Villeneuve sector with a brand new 6-seater high-speed chairlift increasing capacity from 1800 people per hour to 3000.

New in La Rosière for winter 2018/19

There are lots of exciting new ski are area developments for La Rosière in 2018/19. La Rosière, a favourite with families, is expanding the Espace San Bernardo ski area for December 2018! The exciting 15 million Euro plans include building five new red graded pistes (increasing the total runs to 198km) and adding two new 6-seater lifts. The addition of the new Mont-Valaisan peak will raise the altitude to 2800m and create lots of secured new free-riding opportunities. Find out more.
