Mountain Coasters (Summer Luge)

Mountain coasters (or luge/sledge/toboggan) are where you can control your own sled on rails at your own pace. This is done by managing the braking yourself, therefore controlling your speed in complete safety. Eight of our resorts that we feature in Summer offer this fun-filled activity, suitable for children and adults!

1. Montgenevre - "Monty Express"

  • 4-season downhill coaster taking 3 minutes on average,
  • 1400m long with 300m of drop,
  • Slalom in the forest with wood bridges and tunnels,
  • Situated behind the Tourist Office by the Chalvet gondola,
  • Children over 1m25 can go in the sled by themselves,
  • Under 1m25 can sit between the legs of an adult in the sled (under 6’s are free),
  • Photo opportunity on the coaster, collect your souvenir photo at the finish (pay locally).

2. La Rosiere - "X-Treme Luge"

  • 4-season downhill coaster,
  • 700m single-rail sledge,
  • Slope breaks, a footbridge, a spin, at a speed of up to 45km/h. The ascent is by sled, through the woods,
  • For children between 95cm and 125cm, mandatory accompaniment of an adult but the child goes free,
  • The departure of the sledge is located at the resort entrance parking lot next to the roundabout,
  • Photo opportunity on the coaster, collect your souvenir photo at the finish (pay locally).

3. Les Carroz d’Araches - "Speed Dragoz"

  • 4-season downhill coaster taking 4 minutes on average,
  • Starting with a 350m climb from the Carroz gondola departure platform before a 850m run,
  • Descent punctuated with banked turns, rollers and flip-flops through the Kedeuze forest,
  • Optional Virtual Reality headset: combining reality and virtual reality during the downhill run in the form of a 360-degree 3D film for total immersion in a virtual universe and heightened sensations,
  • The minimum height is 1.05m (approx. 3 yrs old) and all children under the height of 1.25m (approx. 8-9 yrs old) must be accompanied by an adult,
  • Photo opportunity on the coaster, collect your souvenir photo at the finish (pay locally).

4. Alpe d’Huez

  • 4-season downhill coaster taking 7 minutes on average,
  • 700m downhill with 65m of drop,
  • 1 km descent with turns, jumps, waves, flip-flaps, spins, tunnels at a speed of up to 40km/h taking 7 minutes from start to finish,
  • Optional Virtual Reality headset: combining reality and virtual reality during the downhill run in the form of a 360-degree 3D film for total immersion in a virtual universe and heightened sensations,
  • Children under 1m35 must be accompanied by an adult. No access for children under 3 years old, even accompanied,
  • Purchase of passes at the toboggan office, at Les Bergers.

5. Les Menuires – "La Mine" (take a car or shuttle bus from St Martin de Belleville nearby)

  • 4-season downhill coaster,
  • 1,000m length,
  • On individual sledges, children and adults take on Boukty, the resort’s mascot, over twists, descents and raised bends... there are about 10 Boukty challenge-themed signboards: the aim is to beat his record!
  • Accessible to children from 5 years old and a minimum height of 1m10 on the parents' sled,
  • Accessible alone in the sled from the age of 10 and with a minimum height of 1m40,
  • Access by the Gare de la télécabine du Roc 1.

6. Les Saisies

  • 4-season downhill coaster,
  • 800m length,
  • Accelerations, banked turns, 360 and 540° spins, series of waves...
  • Riders under 8 must be accompanied by a person over 1.35m tall,
  • Photo opportunity on the coaster, collect your souvenir photo at the finish (pay locally).

7. Chamonix

  • 4-season downhill coaster,
  • 1,300m length,
  • Jumps, turns, spins at 540°,
  • 1 or 2 persons in the same luge, from 3 years old, under 1.35m with an adult,
  • Placed in the centre of Chamonix with parking.

8. Les Gets

  • 4-season downhill coaster,
  • 1,100m with a vertical drop of 104m and an average descent gradient of 14.50%,
  • Turns, a steep drop (with a peak at 46%), speeds of up to 40km/h,
  • Accessible from 3 years old accompanied, 8 years old alone. Maximum weight of 150kg per sledge,
  • The start is at Les Perrières, near the start of the chairlift. By car: you can park in the Perrières car park, which is free.

9. Megeve/Combloux - "4S Sled"

  • 4-season downhill coaster at Jaillet taking on average 6 minutes,
  • Launched at 36 km/h over 715 meters of descent,
  • Children are only allowed to use the track from the age of 3,
  • Children under the age of 9 are only allowed to use the track if they are accompanied by an older person who will be the driver of the toboggan.

10. Morzine

  • Not quite a mountain coaster, but a summer sledge to slide down,
  • Once you reach the top on La Crusaz chairlift, make your way down the tracks of the winding Pleney slopes,
  • It’s entirely up to you to enjoy the speedy dash or leisurely ride down the hill by merely taking control of the sledge brakes,
  • Younger children can go in the sledge with a parent, whilst older children can race each other side by side!
