French Alps Ski Holidays
Why choose the French Alps?
The French Alps is home to a vast range of ski resorts across many ski areas, as French Alps specialists we at Peak Retreats feature a large selection of these. Choosing France for your next ski holiday destination could be a perfect choice for you, as there are a number of benefits to British skiers and many charming qualities that will make sure you have an unforgettable trip, whilst finding out why so many skiers and snowboarders in Britain choose the French Alps.
Ease of Access:
Many resorts in the French Alps are easily accessible by car, thanks to being near motorway exits. Driving via the Eurotunnel LeShuttle can give you some very fast journeys from Calais, including resorts such as La Clusaz, Megeve and Chamonix, all of which being an 8 hour drive or less. If you would rather catch a train, there are several resorts close to train stations in France, including resorts in the Paradiski and Tarentaise areas that can be easily reached if you take the Eurostar and a high speed TGV to Bourg Saint Maurice.
Alternatively you can fly to the French Alps if you prefer, there are plenty of airports across the UK and Ireland that can get you there, including London Gatwick and London Heathrow, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Dublin and many more. In France there are several airports that can give you easy access to ski resorts, such as Geneva Airport, a popular airport with skiers that has many nearby resorts within driving distance. Other airports with nearby resorts includes Lyon, Chambéry and Grenoble.
Snow-sure skiing:
French resorts are a good choice for a winter season surrounded by snow throughout. We feature several ultra-high altitude resorts that have great snow quality thanks to their low temperatures higher up, meaning you can ski even late into the season. This includes resorts like Tignes Val Claret, the highest of the Tignes villages and Val Thorens in the 3 Valleys, the highest ski resort in Europe at 2300m.Â
Large ski areas:
The French Alps boasts some of the world's largest ski areas, offering you a diverse choice of where to ski, along with many areas being fully lift-linked allowing you to easily make your way to each of their various big name resorts and quieter villages. This means you can make the most of all the pistes that the French Alps have to offer.
