Les Sybelles - Ski area and resorts guide
Located on the border of Isère and the Hautes Alps, the Sybelles massif is the fourth largest ski area in France, and the biggest in the Maurienne Valley. Formed in 2003, this resort gives ski access to Saint-Jean d'Arves (1,600m - 2,620m), Saint-Sorlin d'Arves (1,500m - 2,620m), Le Corbier (1,550m - 2,620m), La Toussuire (1,800m - 2,620m), Saint-Colomban-des-Villards (1,100m - 2,620m) and Les Bottières (1,300m - 2,620m). All are 100% connected via the peak of l’Ouillon, with excellent snow conditions at 2,431m altitude.
With spectacular views of the emblematic needles of Arves, peaking at 3,514m, rounded peaks, valleys, rocks, forests and cascading lakes, all make up its diverse landscape that is home to a large variety of wildlife and undisrupted mountain villages.Â
Les Sybelles ski area information
The name is a play on words, the "Six Belles" (six beauties) being the six resorts that form the area. These are a mix of traditional villages and resorts designed with skiing in mind. We have selected the best that Les Sybelles has to offer.
At 1,800m altitude, La Toussuire is the ideal resort to go skiing with your family and is also great for beginners, especially with the beginners’ area located on the snow front. Its car-free centre lets you stroll between the numerous shops and facilities (swimming pool, skating rink, bowling…).
Le Corbier was built in 1969 with skiing built into its design, it's safe, practical and family-friendly (it holds the Famille Plus label). Its pedestrianised resort centre and convenient design means that its great for those who want to maximise their skiing time. It's set at 1,550m. There's a spectacular long blue piste down from the Pointe du Corbier at 2,265m to the village resort of St Jean d'Arves.
Ideal for families and rich in culture, St Sorlin d'Arves is a traditional mountain village. An optimal amount of sunshine, local cheese-making, original activities and range of shops, restaurants and cafes make this genuinely friendly (and relatively undiscovered) resort special.Â
