Oisans
Isère and Southern Alps
With influences from both the Northern and Southern faces of the Alps (Provence/Cote d'Azur borders the south), L'Oisans and its spectacular peaks have been a centre for high Alpine tourism since the 19th century. The resorts we feature are either in Isère, France's third biggest mountain destination, or the sunny Hautes Alpes.
The whole area extends from Grenoble to Briançon and encompasses the Parc National des Ecrins - one of France's greatest national parks. As well as its famous glaciers, it also boasts some of the highest peaks in the French Alps such as La Barre des Ecrins at 4,102m and La Meije at 3,983m. Some of the epic climbs of the Tour de France are held in the area each summer.
Montgenevre, Serre Chevalier, Vars, Isola 2000 and Auron are all in the Southern Alps. They all have great tree-lined skiing and decent-sized ski areas. Montgenevre, in particular, is very popular with our clients and is located close to Turin airport for a quick transfer.
Within the Isere department, you can find the resorts of Les Deux Alpes (which has had a huge investment in its lift over the last few years and benefits from Glacier skiing and a big apres-ski life), Alpe d'Huez and the smaller resorts part of the same ski area including Vaujany, Oz 3300 and Auris en Oisans which offer some amazing skiing and snow conditions, the lesser known resorts of Les 7 Laux, Correncon and Villard de Lans which although smaller resorts offer tree-lined skiing and quiet slopes, and lastly Chamrousse which has one of the shortest airport transfers from Grenoble, just 50 miles away.
