A genuinely friendly mountain village, packed with fun for skiers and non-skiers, and plenty of kilometres to ski, what's not to love? We've picked the five reasons we love the pretty village of Samoëns.
1. The ski area
Samoëns is part of the fourth largest ski area in France, the brilliant Grand Massif, which has 265km of slopes.
2. The genuine village feel
As well as the awesome skiing, Samoëns makes a great base for those who don't ski and has lots to do after a day on the slopes. The historic village has a genuinely friendly feel, it was home to stonecutters and its architecture is protected as a 'monument historique'. We love heading to a cosy café in the village square, overlooking the church that has its origins in the 13th century.
4. The good life
Samoëns is somewhere it's easy to experience that very French term 'art de vivre' (the tourist office team translates this as 'the good life' and we think that's pretty spot on!) from 'wellness' activities (our La Reine des Prés, Les Chalets de Layssia and Alexane properties all have a spa) to local gastronomy in the resort's restaurants, life is good!
5. Family-friendly après ski
From ice skating in the large outdoor rink to dog-sledding and snowshoeing, there is a huge choice of family-friendly après ski to choose from. The tourist office also arranges a weekly programme of activities during the ski season.
